A Cambridge, St John's man goes down in the record books as the first Oxbridge Undergraduate. Aged, just 21 and a second year reading medicine he succesfully completed the swim with the aid of coach Freda Streeter, Neil Streeter and Barry. Since then, he's gone on to swim a number of other long distance swims. These include, around Manhattan, Italy-Sicily, the bosphorus Race, Meis-Kas. Final notable achievements was that along with fellow athletes Nick Berry/Harry fisher, they held the GB records for crossing the Straits of Gibralter for a few years

Marisa Schubert

Marisa Schubert, former president of the Oxford swimming club spent two years gearing herself up for her 2014 attempt. She completed the swim and goes into the record books as the first Oxbridge female swimmer. A natural to open water swimmer, she can often be found swimming in the river Thames throughout the year.

PJ Thum

Having participated in the 2004 Cross Channel relay, PJ set his sights on the English Channel. Already a Rhodes Scholar, Commonwealth scholar, Singaporean National swimmer he snaked his way across the English Channel and singaporean record books.

Lexie Elliot (née Davison, Oxford, New College, 1994) went early at 2am and reached France in 12 hours and 31 minutes - a great effort. Lexie was in the World Record Relay Team of 2000 and was at New College from 1994 - 2001(!).
